The highly anticipated mini series from DC Comics Blackest Night is here and was it work the wait? Hell Yeah!

The eight issue mini series takes place after the death of Bruce Wayne and the Black Lantern rings invade the sector of the Green Lanterns.

The story starts off with the rebirth of Coast City after being destroyed. Originally when Superman was killed their was a National Day of Mourning, but after his return it was changed to a National Day of Honor for Super-Beings that gave their life protecting others, and the innocents that failed to survive,

Some of the super beings that are no longer with us like Bruce Wayne – Batman, Ted Kord – The Blue Beetle, Arthur Curry – Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter are being looked at where they are buried. From an unmarked grave next to his parents grave, to a morgue in the Justice League of America Headquarters we look at some of the names of our fallen super heroes.

But an old friend in the Flash has returned and the Green Lantern is explaining to him how Dick Grayson discovered a plot where superbodies were being snatched so that their superpowers could be used for parts on others.

While the Flash is getting caught up Alfred, Bruce Wayne’s long time butler and friend call and confesses that he buried Bruce Wayne in an unmarked grave next to his parents, but the grave has been robbed.

While this is going on the Citadel of Guardians of the Universe admit that they failed when they notice a black shadow approaching rapidly. Should they notify the Green Lanterns? This is a question that quickly heats up and comes to a fight between the Guardians.

The Black Lantern rings do not go unnoticed by the Green Lanterns and they try to hold them off, but to no avail.

As the Black Rings reach earth they are looking for flesh and fight it in the dead superbeings. This causes the dead superbeings to rise from their graves and begin fighting superheroes like Hawkman and Hawkgirl, who are the first two to fall to the Black Lanterns.

Who will be next? Can the Black Lanterns be stopped? You will just have to wait and see.

The Blackest Nights is currently on newsstands and it was worth the cost. The art work and the story both compliment each other and just add to the overall experience of the story. If you missed the Blackest Night during Free Comic Book Day don’t miss issue #1. If you found a Blackest Night on FCBD then keep the story line going.
